CV - Artist Statement
Sean Sweeney (b. 1999) is a contemporary artist born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Graduating from Georgia State with a BFA in Drawing/Painting, he now primarily works with airbrush and acrylics, blurring the lines between traditional painting, hyperrealism, and fabrication. Through his process and use of scale, found materials, resin, and familiar motifs, his out-of-focus airbrushed imagery renders a unique contrast between foreground and background.
"My paintings act as a window into the world around me, viewed through a nearsighted perspective. I'm constantly thinking of different processes and techniques to replicate things I see or how I see them, whether I ultimately choose to paint them or not. Often beginning with a photograph, I utilize different found objects and my attention to detail (or sometimes lack thereof) to further direct my work."
